I just found out that one of my closest friends likes Ayn Rand. :*(

The slight silver lining: she only likes the writing instead of her philosophy, but still... *SOB*

(Even if you look at Rand solely from a writing perspective, how can you like her?! At least my friend agreed that the 70-page speech was unnecessary, lol.)

I think the writing itself is dreadful. It's worst than when Stephen King or Charles Dickens drones on and on. Even if I liked the message, I'd still hate the books.

Yep. But at least I can take comfort in the fact that my friend isn't a selfish Objectivist dickhead. She just has questionable taste in writing! :P

Dickens and Ayn Rand are an interesting comparison. Dickens and Marx were pen pals, though I can imagine Dickens fucked around with Marx a bit. I do wonder what Marx would be like as a fiction writer (probably not that good). Reading Atlas Shrugged makes for a good challenge, though.

I would laugh at Ayn Rand fans until I remember that the ones who aren't subsisting off cheetos and Mountain Dew in their parents' basements are running the world.
