Why? And given that he was running against the daughter of the guy who fled the country to avoid being arrested over corruption and human rights abuses, I don't see that the voters any reasonable choices.

I hope this will be a good choice. I admit to have giggled at his name: "humala" means "drunkenness"/"intoxication" in Finnish :)

LOL what a dramatic interpretation of South America LOL indeed. I mean, I love Lula and Dilma, but c'mon, they are far from being revolutionary or anti-american. It's like acting like you're an actual sovereign state and not someone's backyard is a big fucking deal.

As for Peru, I'll admit I don't know much about the new president, but I say good on them given the alternative.

Gotta love it that we get shit for being more indepenent and growing. They all say they support it but as soon as Global South countries disagree with the G8 on important stuff you can see a lot of people are so annoyed and thinking "who do these stupid amateurs think they are?" without even thinking about it.

This, so much. I remember the whole thing with Iran. I mean, regardless of the opinion one can have of Iran or of the deal they made, what was really annoying was the "wth does Brazil thinks it's doing, messing with the Middle East. Leave it to the big boys" attitude.
