I think they should be banned inside of buildings. It would just lead to more shit to allow them, because smoker's rights activists (lol) would be pushing for more and more access if we allow this. I also don't like them; I like them better than regular cigarettes, but smoking isn't allowed in certain places for a reason.

Smoking isn't allowed because some people consider second hand smoke to be dangerous. That doesn't apply to the e-cigs, so there's no reason whatsoever to ban them unless you just want to stick it to smokers or former smokers.

The e-cigs are not necessarily safe. They have been found to contain toxic substances, and the second-hand effects are still being studied.

Now then, do they actually exhale water vapor? If so I don't see why ban them. We ban cigarettes inside of buildings because of secondhand smoke, not because of the trace amounts of nicotine left in the smoke. No smoke, no problem.

it may not be a tobacco issue

This right there says to me that she's just out to make (former) smokers miserable, she doesn't care about anything else. Ugh.

I quit without using anything, but not everyone can. Those E-cigs are completely harmless and there's no reason to ban them.

Studies on cell phones causing cancer are still ongoing as well, but they haven't been banned.

So I've seen late night commercials for these but didn't know they were called e-cigarettes. Given the name, I looked at the title and thought somebody was trying to ban virtual smoking, like downloading cigarettes for your Sims. -_-

So did I at first.

And given that people have gotten up in arms about virtual fur...

The second hand risk of e-cigarettes is unknown and still being studied. This past September the FDA had to send warning letters to several e-cigarette manufacturers in the US for several reasons including lack of appropriate testing. They have also been found to have many of the same carcinogenic toxins as cigarettes despite claims made by the manufacturers.

Most professionals also don't take them seriously as a cessation aid. It doesn't help "break the habit" because you are essentially performing the same physical actions as you would when you smoke. (Plus the whole "they are not really that much safer" issue that many independent groups are finding.)

Obviously, I'm okay with them being banned. There are a lot of other methods that definitely don't pose a threat to those around you.

I hadn't heard about them possibly containing toxins (other than the obvious nicotine) - thanks for the info!
