My thoughts are with all of those affected by this. I've been a Kansan my whole life, so I'm no stranger to tornadoes and the devastation they can bring.
An old family friend lives in Joplin, and she hasn't updated her FB so I don't know yet if she's okay. =/
Nothing scares me more than the thought of encountering a natural disaster in the middle of the fucking night. I like to think I'd be able to keep calm and safe during the day, but if the electricity's out and I can't even see what's coming...

This, absolutely. I grew up in a mobile home, otherwise known as a "In case of tornado, kiss your ass goodbye". If we couldn't make it to the grocery store to have a place with a foundation to hunker down in, there were many times we thought we would have to hop the fence behind our property and duck and cover in the creek bed/ditch, because it's safer in that ditch than it is inside the mobile home. D:
