I changed my name when I got married, but for totally selfish reasons. I'm a teacher and my maiden name had a variation of "Butt" in it. The first time I introduced myself and didn't have to respond to some thirteen year old being a smartass was a great day.
I was lucky enough to just be starting at a new school the fall after I got married though, so my new students/co-workers only knew the new name.
Changing it sucked though, I'll be honest. You forget everywhere that actually knows your name until something like this. I managed to accidentally lock myself out of my bank account during the changing by having an I.D. that didn't match the account name. And the social security office literally took like 5 hours of my life waiting in line.
I've joked with my husband that if we ever get divorced, I'm keeping his name because I'm not standing in that line again.
I can't decide whether I'll keep my name or not when I get married. I just don't know if I could ever get used to going by a different name. Maybe if my future husband has a really awesome last name. I think they're both valid choices.
Although, I have always wanted to marry someone whose last name started with a Y, because then my initials would be AMY.
Good points. The reason students are being polled is because someone's doing it at a university and students are easier to get involved in research than real people others. Sad but true.
There's a reason why as one undergrad TA said the opinions, the motivations, ect of 21-year-olds are the most known, it's because they're the most readily available sample group when it's done at university.

It's shallow but my first and last name sound awesome together, nothing else would do.
