judging by the fact that the son is 29, there's NO way the oldest of the kids could be more than, what, 12?

i've felt nauseous ever since reading that.

to reiterate two things i said in the other post:
1) i think it's disgusting and sad how most media outlets are sweeping that under the rug, not putting it in their headline and barely mentioning it in their articles

2) i know shamefully little about what's going on in libya since i've been so busy with school the past month or so, so if someone wants to take the time to briefly explain what's going on (which would be a pain in the ass, i know), i'd really appreciate it. i don't even know where to start reading.

1) Because there are more important things to talk about. Like a "royal wedding" that has already come and gone.

2) Seconded, unfortunately.

I'm a little cautious to believe this, considering the way Gaddafi has been trying to paint himself as a victim lately. This is coming from his spokesperson and it seems like an odd coincidence that the people killed were children and his youngest son who wasn't involved in govt/the military. According to Richard Engel on twitter, the rebels are celebrating in the streets. We'll see I guess.

Not to be too cynical, but Gaddafi also claimed that his adopted daughter who no one had ever heard of before and was somewhere between 6 months and 6 years old (according to Libyan officials' conflicting reports) died in the 1986 attack. And that the protesters were given drugs by Bin Laden. And that NATO was killing civilians who were mostly "women, children and clerics."

Unbelievably sad that innocents (especially children) were killed and that a civilian neighborhood was attacked.

It seems as though no one knows wtf the facts are yet, though. Some articles are saying that they aren't sure the son (Seif al-Arab) was actually killed. There's also doubt that the children who died were related to Gaddafi.

The initial statement was made by "Libyan government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim" (via Al Jazeera) so many Libyans are suspicious about the accuracy of all details. It's probably going to take a while to know for sure what exactly happened (or if the reports will EVER agree).

Essentially what I understood earlier was that Gaddafi's son, who may or may not have switched over to fight with the rebels, may or may not have been killed.

But it is terribly sad that innocents are being killed...

That was my reaction, too. It's a bit difficult for me to believe that Gaddafi and his wife could have been in that house and come out of the situation completely unharmed. =/

(The OP's source doesn't say so, but a spokesman for the Libyan gov't has since stated that they were there & unharmed.)

This is what confuses me. The Libyan government says there were a bunch of other people there with the ones who died but how did that happen? The whole thing just seems super shady to me.
