Being a filmmaker who happens to be Republican, I had long considered making a documentary about why there are so few Republicans where I live and what that means in a city with an African American-majority population and Democratic Party-controlled government. But not being a documentarian, I never knew how or where to start ( Read more... )

I hope this documentary fails. We don't need more black people going to a party that overwhelmingly denies so many social rights to so many people.

I can at least stomach the Democrats and work with the party for more substantive change, but the Republicans? Screw that.

The way I see it, having more minorities means having fewer of those policies passing/being acceptable.

So what is your plan then? Have the Democrats become extremely liberal and the Republicans to become Democrats?

Because that's what would have to happen for the Republicans to GAF about social issues. We would have to have a large social movement to be able to pull that off.

My plan is fit social issues into a conservative/libertarian framework. The party doesn't have to turn completely Liberal for that to happen.

It's not for me to say what party POC should or shouldn't be part of. The documentary sounds interesting, but I can't say I'm on board with the Republican party regardless of race.

I like this documentary because white people have been telling POC for years who they should or shouldn't vote for. I'm tired of that shit TBH hence why I don't vote for Democrats.

Also, I fixed the link.

You don't vote Democratic in order to spite people who told you what to do?

I hate when white liberals tell me that I should be voting Democratic because I am a POC. I've never had the same experience from white Republicans.

I honestly don't understand why any person of color would want to be associated with a party that is ROUTINELY cited for their racism against you.

I mean this isn't curbside racism by random fools on the street that just so happen to be Republican, these are people who PUBLICLY REPRESENT THE PARTY.

Ugh. This guy is trying way too hard. Between the Public Enemy thing and the "Hustle and Flow" reference (seriously, wtf?), this seems like a guy who hung out with a few black people and decided he was so very, very cool.

Other than that? I don't care. This seems exactly like a project black republicans would dig. I'll let them decide whether or not it offends them.

I did find some of the source comments hilarious. I think I bingo-ed a couple of times before getting to the tenth comment.
