Brian Goodell, of Mission Viejo, Calif., won two gold medals in the 1976 Olympics. An all-American, God-fearing golden boy, he segued into a comfortable career in commercial real estate. Until 2008, when he was laid off. As a 17-year-old swimmer, he set two world records. As a 52-year-old job hunter, he’s drowning.

Dear Brock Johnson, it's very hard for me to feel any sympathy for you when you knowingly left a WELL-PAYING JOB in the middle of a fucking RECESSION without a damn BACK-UP PLAN. Did you think the job fairies were just going to descend from the sky and drop an equally as good job in your hands? Jesus.

The entitlement, it burnsssss.

Reading this part was extremely sad: Many of these guys may be great on the back nine but totally lack the skill set to get them through anything like this, says Judith Gerberg, a Manhattan-based executive career coach. “If you went to the college of your choice, married the woman of your choice, and bought the house of your choice, you’ve never dealt with rejection. You’ve never had to develop fortitude.” She gives her clients a chart with all the hours of the day, because corporate types are used to having other people color-code their life. If not quite the Great Depression, it is certainly the Great Humbling.

Also, "the Mancession".

I've *worked* for those guys, doing exactly that, and they really ARE that helpless when it comes to basics. Back in the day I was stunned at how many of them couldn't do really elementary life-type things for themselves -- let alone even manage their way around say, writing a letter in Word. IOW, they couldn't even do basic business things, not just life things.

Yep. Not only do they not know how to do these things for themselves they won't learn. They truly feel entitled to having other people do those things for them.

"I shouldn't have to do it myself! Don't we have people who do that kind of thing?"
