I do not agree with having everyone think in the same way within a political party, but realistically it is the best way to win an election and succeed in passing bills. I see that in Canada with the Conservative party. Harper silenced a lot of people and he remained in power. Do I like it? No. Is it effective? Yes, even if his govt fell now, it has been in power since 2006. Minority govt, yes, but still. They could have remained in power for only 1 year but it has been 5 years.

In any case, the private meetings about the bill between a select few may be illegal. IDK US law about this, so if anyone does I welcome a response. THAT is what I find much more alarming. Also, they conceded far too much, but that's what Obama is all about. *sigh*
