Well, there's this, at least, after the crap Obama has done otherwise in the last month. It's good he's at least implicitly recognizing that when it comes to the spread of the MS-13 and other woes in El Salvador, the US is part of the problem.

Even the article is severely underestimating the definitive role the U.S. played in the Salvadoran Civil War. The author neglects to mention how D'Aubuisson was a School of the Americas graduate which negates the "U.S. came to support the Salvadoran right wing government" line. They were backing that bullshit from the start.

On topic, if anyone's interested, here's a collection of Archbishop Romero's writings: Violence of Love

They're very religious of course, given that he was an archbishop and is commonly associated with liberation theology (though not necessarily a theologian like his friend Rutilio Grande), but I'll mention it ahead of time just in case it'll deter anyone.

Oh yeah, D'Aubission was one of the School of Assassin's most prominent graduates. Ugh :/

And even though I'm not religious at all, Romero is still one of my heroes. So much love for that man <3

Documentary recommendation (free to watch on Hulu!): Return to El Salvador. I know a lot of the people involved in it (through my church), and they managed to get Martin Sheen to do the narration (!). I should warn for discussion of graphic violence and also mention that it is from a (lefty) Christian perspective, if that would put you off.
