Why Do We Let Them Dress Like That?
Women of a liberated generation wrestle with their eager-to-grow-up daughters-and their own pasts

What teenage girl doesn't want to be attractive, sought-after and popular? And what mom doesn't want to help that cause?

Why do these types of articles end up blaming women in one way or another?

Because women are at fault for everything.

Because it's always our fault, and if we would just let the menfolk decide all of our values, morals, and actions for us, us ladies would clearly just be so much better off. :D

...In other words, internalized misogyny, but sometimes snarking helps.

THANK YOU. EXACTLY. Isn't it more fucked up that there are men out there attracted to these young girls than the fact that some rich parents are permissive?

Wow, that article is all over the place. I agree, that I'm not a fan of pre-teens dressing like adults. But, treating healthy young adult sexuality like it's a bad thing? Seriously? And yes, "campus mattress" is an awful epithet.

That's precisely where I ended up. There is absolutely a problem with the way we sexualize VERY young girls (and I mean much younger than the ones discussed here, even). But it just went to hell from there.

Good points sandwiched between several slices of stupidity, woman-blaming, general stereotyping, and In-MY-Day-Isms.

Nice. :/

I feel like there are three different articles here, smashed together, with multiple mixed messages. If the writer wished to convey confusion, then she was successful. Any other goal... not to much.

Remember that double standard you were trying to avoid? You found it.
