the individual behind that tweet seems more anti-religion than having a source of any sort of scam.

Nods. I don't doubt that there are scammers and opportunists out there, but there are also bona fide organizations doing good (Episcopal Relief and Development being one of the religious groups helping Haiti get back on its feet, for instance). And either may be both of religious-based and secular origin.
