From what I understand (my mom sells insurance so she talks about it a lot), like the article said, the gap is pretty large with younger people but isn't too big for older people.

I got charged less than my ex, even though he was over 25 (and I was under 20 at the time), but that might have something to do with all the tickets and accidents on his record. :P I have heard that women pay less for auto insurance, though. I wish I could find it- the St. Pete times reported about six months ago on traffic stats. Men had wayyyyyyyyy more accidents than women overall.

OT, but does the whole site layout look tiny to anyone else? It's driving me absolutely insane and I have no idea how to change it!

I thought this was in regards to health insurance at first. It would be nice to pay the same rate as men for that :-/

Well, this is a Europe thing, right? Don't most countries over there get health care through the state/country? Or is it like Canada, free under a certain income level, and on a scale above that?

Either way, the car insurance thing... I can see what they were trying to do here, but in order to REALLY be equal, they'd have to erase all the other inequalities first. Like the pay gap, and discrimination in the workplace, and instituting a culture where men are expected to take care of kids just as much as we are. THEN maybe* women can afford to pay the extra in car insurance.

Men are a greater risk overall. Overall, they can pay extra cash.

re: health care. In Germany every citizen needs to be a member of a health insurance fund, either of a private one or of the compulsary one. The last one usually only covers very few things, especially in regards to dentists, glasses or preventive medical checkups, so that people need to pay for a lot of things themselves. Therefore many people here have additional insurances that cover some of the expenses that are not paid for by the compulsary health insurance fund. Generally they are a lot cheaper for men.

See it's the same price in Australia, but you have to pay more for 'pregenancy extras' So I don't currently pay for that, but I would have to add it to my policy if I was planning on getting pregenant.
