The once and perhaps future Republican presidential candidate didn't mean it that way, of course. Actually, he was slamming President Obama's decision to stop defending the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages ( Read more... )

I call BULLSHIT on Huck the Suck. He's only saying this to get people to like him in preparation for 2012. I remember what you said in the '08 primaries about gay marriage, talking about how it was sinful and whatnot.

I read the article bb but I still think it's political posturing for 2012. I don't believe anything ANY Republican wannabe for president is saying right now.

ETA: "State's Rights" is also a code word on the Right for stuff I don't like. I like how it's being used to prop up gay marriage/civil unions but being used to undermine HRC.

That's not what the article is even SAYING, though; it's pointing out how Huckabee slammed the decision while at the same time lamented how much money is spent on family issues like divorce and childcare without even realizing that these are the exact same arguments that pro-gay marriage people use.

Gay marriage causes straight men to become deadbeat dads.

I see.

No, no. There's a dad shortage so all gay men should marry women and stick around and be dads...or something.

[simpering smile] Well, you see Virginia, men are amoral beasts who follow their impulses and have to be bribed to do anything decent, and now that those wicked feminists have encouraged women to put out before marriage, the only thing making men marry women is to enjoy a sense of superiority over the gay and lesbian couples who can't get married. If the club is no longer exclusive, they don't want to join. And since the only thing that makes fathers love their children is the ability to claim them as possessions and miniature expressions of themselves in their perfect little nuclear-family collection of orbiting accessory people, if there's no marriage there's no use in acknowledging one's children anymore. "Letting families marry is terrible! Do you know how much of a drain it is on the taxpayuer to raise kids outside of marriage."

Um... These arguments don't go together? They just... don't?
