It's a channel created by Al Gore that has shows that are primarily centered around progressive ideas dealing with environmentalism, world/human issues, and addressing particular issues like the drug trade, human trafficking, etc. It also has shows like Infomania (haven't watched it, honestly), Rotten Tomatoes Show (dedicated to film buffs), Vanguard (info/documentary where the reporters go to certain countries where the issue is taking place and report on it -- Ghana vs Homosexuality was a big one; My favorite show of their lineup), and this also had this show that was pro-feminism and satirized the institutionalized sexist parts of American & Canadian culture.
One of my favorite channels to watch when I'm at home, tbh. They have really good documentaries in the form of short films -- Relationships is one, Vanguard does this sometimes, What Did I Do Last Night (binge drinking in the UK), and Behind Bride Trafficking.
Current, and all things related to it, is essentially the white liberal network. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I am pretty much going off of the infomania line-up here.) It switches between the entertainment industry, humorous (sometimes) commentary on American Culture, and occasionally, it covers actual news. The network seems to have a snarky sensibility, so there is that as well.
Weird that they got Olbermann, but I have to say he definitely fits.
I'm pretty sure I'd have to pay big, big bucks to get Current TV where I live, but hopefully they'd put his broadcasts online? If so, then I love this news. :)
Unlike most cable channels, including MSNBC, which are owned by large media companies, Current is privately and independently owned by Mr. Gore and other backers...

And it starts in the late spring. So no waiting 6 months.
Plus Current TV is in 75 million homes and online (for some shows)
