The Daily Show addresses the shootings in Tucson

Jan 11, 2011 11:34

Starting just after the 2:30 mark, Jon gets pretty serious in addressing this incident.  Some of his comments may surprise you, and even those who don't care for JStew may agree with him on some points.  Worth watching.

I did not like the comment he made about making it easier to distinguish crazy people from "normal" people.

Yeah, that was pretty ignorant. I actually didn't like anything he had to say about so-called "crazy" people.

Same, but that just really struck me.

Thanks for posting this. Interesting, the differences between what he's saying and what Olbermann was saying in his thoughts on the shootings.

I expect nothing less in terms of "crazy" chat from a man who thought "Hey, you know what'll be a great idea? RALLY TO RESTORE SANITY LOLOLOL".

It felt as though he started off saying one with with regard to the actual impact of violent political metaphors/rhetoric, and by the end of it, saying the complete opposite.

It's nice to see someone rethinking their positions (possibly - I'm sure this was written and not totally off-the-cuff), but it felt like there was too much clarification and modification and whatnot. Like we were viewing one side of an internet argument where the message actually got through a little bit.

Or something.

Oh, good, I wasn't alone in thinking that.

He does have a point in that people want a single cause, we want it to be easy and stop any future things like this. That was the only good point in here, though.

But nothing is that easy, and I don't like how he is going on about 'crazy' people.

but violent political rhetoric didn't CAUSE it, it certainly influenced and possibly led to this.

ITA. I liked him saying that, but everything else just struck me as very ignorant.

Well, I also liked the panda pajamas but that really wasn't the point. :)
