STANFORD, Calif. - President Obama is planning to hand the U.S. Commerce Department authority over a forthcoming cybersecurity effort to create an Internet ID for Americans, a White House official said here today.

Someone needs to remind the US that they're not the only ones on the internet and such a system would be ultimately pointless because there'd be so many people outside of it.

Yes, the headline is sensationalist. Still doesn't change the fact that these proposed ideas are unnecessary and bullshit and leave too many doors wide open for future exploitation.

I also love the "we need the private sector to lead the implementation of this" comment. Yes, let's leave this to the corporations. 8D
