But yeah, as usual with South America there's always more than meets the eye. Some of Chávez's opposition is just ridiculous and is just not helping. I hope Venezuela gets some third way or some healthy alternation of power as soon as possible though, Hugo Chávez is so last decade. I'm still cringing at his new ~super powers~.
Also, kinda OT but reading this amidst all the articles about Lula's legacy almost makes me wanna cry. And damn, I should really start packing, Dilma's inauguration awaits! (I secretly hope Chávez says hello to Hillary Clinton there just for the lolz of that picture, btw)
meee too. I have to give kudos to Time for printing this.
lol what did Chávez say were the ~new superpowers? Like Iran? Lolz.
Aww bb *hugs* But at least Dilma is coming after Lula and not that creepy-ass Mr. Burns esque Serra. And on that note, I'm really jealous that you're going to Dilma's inauguration. She's such a worthy successor to Bachelet on the South American HBIC throne.
Oh, by super powers I meant his power to rule by decree. But I do think I remember either Chávez or Ahmadinejad saying Venezuela and Iran were getting a lot of hate because they had a brilliant future ahead (not with those words).
And I was talking happy tears. Even if it was Serra, Brazil has come a long way since the end of the military dictatorship, death of 1st civilian president and the impeachment of the 1st president elected by the people (ahahaha, we were such a mess). It's the first time in more than 50 years that a president (Lula) is preceded and succeeded by 2 other presidents elected by the people.
Oh yeah, definitely. Real democracy in South America is so important, whether it's results I like (Dilma!) or don't like (Piñera or At Least The Right Triumphed Democratically This Time)
I agree. Chávez is not perfect (not by a looooonnnnggg shot and his admirers really get on my nerves sometimes), but at the same time, he isn't Satan (or even a Fidel Castro-- in terms of being dictatorial, Castro was way worse than Chávez. Last I heard, Chávez doesn't have "re-education camps" for homosexuals like Cuba had in the 1960s/1970s, though to his credit, Castro did officially apologize for that in the early 90s and now, Cuba's a pretty LGBT friendly place in the Caribbean)
Well, I always tell it like it is: He's a low-foreheaded opportunist schmuck with ridiculous delusions of grandeur and compared to other historic world leaders both good and bad, he's neither of those.
