during the Vietnam War, I was court-martialed and sentenced to a year at hard labor in a military prison--of which I served three and a half months in "segregated confinement", because (so I was told) the other prisoners had threatened to rape and kill me due to my sexual orientation.
FUCK

it was bad but he turned his fury into both political action as well as compassion and in addition to working with the New England GLBT Vets he is also a part-time counselor at the local Veterans Administration Hospital, with all the trouble he's caused them over the years I bet they are regreting their decision to kick him out

I find the fact that he doesn't even acknowledge that transgender persons still aren't allowed in the military kind of... sadly ironic.

I thought the exact same thing, especially with the copious mention of "Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender" throughout.

Yeah, and the way he points out how bisexual issues are often invisible.

as mentioned above they are in New England, the place where they managed to to lobby the most Republicans to vote to repeal, so given how tired they are, yeah agree it's not perfect by a long shot, but I think it's great that they even remembered how to spell their names

Hopefully the repeal of DADT is only the beginning. :)

I'm sure it will be since in the USA it is a traditional path for a minority group to use to accelerate "normalization", for example once a broad spectrum of non-elite middle/lower-middle people become exposed to LGBT people as friends and comrades they are more apt to then support them in marriage rights, rights to their children, employment, etc.
