9/11 First Responders Challenge Teary-Eyed McConnell: ‘Where Is His Human Feeling For Us?’

In this lame duck session, Senate Republicans are grasping at every possible reason to “run out the clock” on any Democratic priority. Their brazen obstruction, however, took some victims last week when they used another filibuster to block the James Zadroga 9 ( Read more... )

Basically what he’s saying is that I can’t stay here and work between Christmas and New Years, that would be disrespecting Christians and his family.

there is a deadline
there is a deadline
there is a deadline

Really? Seriously? Because people dying by painful inches don't have a deadline either? I really have no patience for anyone, on any political spectrum, who don't think these people deserve full health care and thank yous from everyone. A lot more people would have died if they hadn't stepped up to plate. FFFF.

I saw this, and while I was very impressed with the overall segment -also the interview with the responders- and glad that he's giving this issue coverage when apparently no-one else is, I actually thought McConnell's speech to Gregg really sweet, and those two things have nothing to do with each other, you know? It just seemed like a cheap shot where it was not at all necessary. Even bad guys can have bromances, and those bromances should not be knocked. But apart from that, this is mindblowing, mindblowing to me that Repubs are doing this and they should be getting called out every damn day of the year.

I can see what you're saying, but I don't quite agree. If Judd Gregg had passed, then I would understand tears in this instance. He's retiring. While it is fine to give a speech over it, I can understand the frustration with seeing McConnell crying over a guy he can still see tomorrow or five minutes after the speech when these guys have lost friends and countless others have friends and family they will never see again due to the aftermath of being first responders on 9/11. I can easily see where someone in such a position can look at McConnell's tears and wonder why he couldn't spare a few for them along with helping to pass the Zadroga Act.

Exactly. People are dying here and maybe that passion and emotion should go towards passing the bill that could prevent a child from having to say goodbye to their mother or father.

It's not a cheap shot. It's an illustration of how McConnell's "bromance" is prioritized above working to provide assistance to heroes who are dying.

I bet if someone had tried to build a mosque on the 9/11 first responders the GOP would have been up in arms though.
