Keith Olbermann quit Twitter because of me

Dec 17, 2010 12:01

Late Wednesday night, long after I'd promised myself that I would sign off the internet, I found myself Googling Keith Olbermann's Twitter feed. He had re-tweeted a link to an article alleging that one of the women accusing Julian Assange of rape had "ties" to the CIA. That article also gave the name of the accuser. I am so unsurprised that Keith turned out to be this big of a douche.

Srsly.

I'm just disappointed that he's this poor of a journalist, too (yeah, OK, technically he's more of an anchorman than a reporter, but the Viewing Public still deserves a lot better).

Yeah, I wasn't a fan before this, but it's still disappointing that he's spread so much misinformation about this case.

I continue to find the WikiLeaks meta-story far more interesting than the leaks themselves.

@_@ Despite everything I've said on past posts about this, and despite how I agree with literally everything this writer says, I have to say this is quite the bit of chest-puffing.

Chest-puffing is a big part of Sady's comic style. It's all over Tigerbeatdown. I mean, maybe she believes some of her own press, but the style was developed specifically as a response to people who tried to belittle her and put her in her place, so she figured she'd just Kanye the shit out of them.

Wednesday morning, I was nobody much. Today, I'm apparently responsible for the biggest celebrity Twitter meltdown since Matt Lauer pissed off Kanye West. Because that -- SIR -- is how the Internet works.

I used to give out awards for people who caused events like that, as well as for the people who were provoked into responding.

Just out of curiosity, which one applies here?

Several would apply here, if the incident had happened on USENET or it had been a slow month on USENET (The first list is for the awards for alt.usenet.kooks and the second list is of the awards and winners for alt.fan.art-bell, also on USENET). Off-USENET internet behavior is usually ignored unless the person involved has a USENET presence or it's especially egregious ( ... )
