Are there support groups that help the victims' families after an accident like this? And OP, I get what you're saying but I don't think they would WANT movie deals for a tragedy like this. The Chile scenario was hyped up because of the amount of time they survived underground (the longest ever for humans AFAIK).

You have a good point, I didn't think of it that way. I'm theory there should be support groups, but the article didn't say.

The New Zealand Red Cross and Victim Support teams have been with the families from day one, and the local churches are also providing help.

It's a small, isolated, very tight-knit community on the West Coast, with long experience of mining tragedies, so the families will geta lot of help.

This is so, so tragic. My heart breaks for these poor families. I honestly think, based on what we know, that they would have died quickly, for which I'm glad for the men involved, but hearing that news would be terrible.

It's sickening how much the media is splashing these families photos on the news. On the front page today (in Western Australia) the photo was of a female family memeber who has collapsed after hearing the news and is wailing with despair. You really don't think they're suffering enough without having that go out around the world? Ugh.
