Oh of course it works, not to keep people safe mind you but who ever said that was their goal?

The TSA: keeping Amtrak in business since (whenever the TSA was founded).

2001. I had to put up with them when flying internationally for the next three academic years.

It never ceases to amaze me how poorly-run the TSA is. So many of their problems could be fixed if there were only competent people at all levels.

I have a question about the whole TSA patdown debacle thing.

I've only flown abroad a few times (into Prague, into Cyprus, and out of Tel Aviv), and those were all part of group trips, so I didn't get the full "experience." What do other countries do for airport security? Which of these measures seem to work well?

Obviously the scanners and patdowns just aren't going to fly (lol pun), but I honestly can't think of other options.

Well we just have metal detectors here in Britain.

We seem to be doing just fine.

That said, we're not getting any 'huge' security breaches as the USA is right now in regards to terrorists and the whole she-bang, so that might just be why.

The idea of these new scanners though is apparently spreading over here, although there's been opposition. So who knows, we might just be getting them too. Joy~

I am so happy to see mainstream media finally taking this on, rather than holding to the "upset people are silly" line. It's been, honestly, just odd how so much of the media's been supporting the "just shut up and take it, for everyone's sake" mandate.

I'm also tired of hearing about the the "80% of the public supports this" poll. I'm just guessing that poll was conducted well before the public knew just what these "enhanced" invasive searches really mean. And probably scurrilously conducted as well -- ask people "Do you support higher security at airports?" and of course most people are going to say yes. Ask people "Are you willing to have a stranger's hands on your genitals, or to have a picture taken of them, in order to be allowed on a plane?" and I'm just guessing you'll get a difference response.
