Shia rule imposed in a primarily Sunni nation...well, this is going to settle well. And it's safe to say that this is Iran's goal since the Iran-Iraq war; the opportunity is incredibly viable now.

Having read one volume of entries from Riverbend's Iraq blog from ca. 2004-5, which covers inter alia people's low expectations of Iraqi politicians, I am not surprised in the slightest.

I read the first volume - a very long time ago - and it was incredibly powerful and incredibly informative. I think it's time for a re-read. And to pick up volume 2.

And thus, the "Axis of Evil" becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It was completely avoidable, too. Iran had nothing to do with 9/11 and in fact were helping us against the Taliban in the immediate aftermath. Bush turned around and slapped them with the "evil" label.

I despise the Iranian government, but they aren't stupid. What else were they going to do besides play the foreign policy cards they were dealt?

Mark my words. Iraq is headed to a civil war between the Sunnis and Shiites.

I said this yesterday before news of this deal was made.

I wonder what a Pro-Tehran government will look like since Iran is headed into its own problems with the government having issues of who is in charge.
