As much of a tragedy I know it was, sadly my most prominent memory is the political rally the Democrats turned his memorial service into. How classy. *eyeroll*
I think you're thinking of Paul Wellstone... and in that case at least it was the right wing media claiming the democrats turned it into a political rally, not actually the democrats that did it.
i remember when this happened, mostly because my republican dad talked a lot about how it was a shame how he died but at least hey, a dead democrat is a good democrat! and then the outrage when he was posthumously elected (i love him, but he's kind of a dick). not that that was an uncommon feeling around here (springfield, ridic conservative, sucking the blunt family's dicks is a city tradition, etc etc)
sucking the blunt family's dicks is a city tradition
Oh lawd the mental image I just had of a whole crowd of senior citizens with kneepads on crowding into the town square for the biannual Blunt Clan Suckoff.
I remember being all HA HA [/Nelson] that John Ashcroft lost to a dead guy, then being NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! when Bush appointed Ashcroft as U.S. attorney general instead.
