are we (as a public and the media) finally paying attention -- well that's kinda obvious, but -- or is it getting worse?

i think the influx of media attention related to DADT and gay marriage must play a part. these kids see their government saying they're wrong. they may hear it in their churches or homes and then they also get it from school? its a lot to handle.

though this article does point out the reason for this particular suicide is unclear

I think people are paying more attention.

I was severely bullied back in 1997/1998, to the point that I don't think I would ever be "normal" again. At that time people refuse to even acknowledge such thing exists, and I seriously believed that I deserved to be treated that way because I was a lesser person.

So yeah. I'm glad that at lease the kids now know they are not alone.

More attention, sadly. 9/10 GBLTQ kids face harassment and the suicide rate amonmg our youth is 4 times what it is among straight, cis youth.

Just generally we haven't been paying attention AND a GBLTQ kid who kills themselves won't always out themselves in the process
