Castro admits 'injustice' for gays and lesbians during revolution

Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro said he acknowledges the persecution of gays and lesbians during the Revolution in his country, according to a newspaper interview published Tuesday.

Throughout the 1960s and '70s, Cuba sent openly gay men to labor camps without charge or trial.

Makes me think of the liberal family law code changes that decriminalized homosexuality which were put through by Alexandra Kollontai under Lenin's government and then brutally repealed later (along with progressive policies toward reproductive rights).

SIGH. To paraphrase Dr. Emma Perez: the problem is that, before, after and during the revolution Marxist (straight) men refuse to give up their power.

YES because who suffers? The economy, which affects humans! Cubans don't even get all the food we get because most of it has to be imported so it's very expensive, and often spoils easily. So if people suffer, then there are going to be even tighter rules and restrictions put in place by the Cuban govt.

Embargo is ridiculous. I'm glad Canada doesn't agree with it.

FINALLY. He initially thought it was a disease/sign of capitalist society. But finally he is coming out with it, even though it's hard for a dictator to admit to mistakes and even harder for a communist one. Maybe he is not so bad.

(btw, I am against the embargo)
