They missed. Instead ended up blowing up a neighbouring car full of journalists. Ahmadinejad is blaming America.

Is it really wrong of me that I find myself wishing the assassin had succeeded? I certainly wish those journalists didn't have to pay for that assassin's mistake.

Silly people.

(1) Assassinations are not cool. Thuggery begets thuggery.
(2) Ahamadinejad is part of a /system/. Surprisingly Iran has a pretty stable governmental apparatus and has been able to withstand an 8 year war against Iraq (supported by the US) and numerous attempts at destabilization by the US and Arab states.
(3) Ahmadinejad's assassination would results in an even more emboldened police state and be a death blow for any kind of progressive movement in Iran for at least another 20 years.
(4) As soon as the cabal ruling in Iran, itself consisting of groups and factions, wants Ahmadinejad gone, he's gone.

High five.

I don't want to see Ahmedinejad dead. I want to see him out of power, maybe in the Hague if we can prove he did something wrong, but dead?

Not cool. :|

He hasn't technically authorized anything illegal if you think about it... given the way the Iranian political system works, the deaths during the protests could tenuously be linked to the supreme leader, but even in the worst case scenario they would use the "rotten apples in the police force" argument that the US has been using for the well-documented war crimes in Iraq.

If we were to start dragging people to Hague, I think the first few would be those engaging in possible genocide (Sudan, Sri Lanka...), engaging in UN documented war crimes (Israel, US...)... and somewhere down the list is suppression of protesters.

Yeah, hence the big if.

I know that the guest list for the Hague party is pretty long, but, I think Ahmedenejad deserves to be on the list.

I also wish the journalists had been spared, but I'm not sure how much good Ahmadinejad being assassinated would do. Particularly if the government was able to put the blame on the US in the eyes of Iranian citizens, turning him into a martyr, his successor might be even more fanatical.
