This is pretty historic, apparently.  Prior to this administration, they've never actually kept bee hives at the White House.  How cool is this??

colony collapse disorder.. it's affecting mostly commercial beekeepers

backyard hobbyist bees face a whole host of other issues (varroa mites are at the top of the list as far as I'm concerned)

If the Smithsonian bee hive was used to make honey (I have no idea), they could have a taste contest! I would be the judge.

Awww. I love little stories like this. And I love honey, fresh honey, even more. Each batch is distinct, depending on the time of the year and types of pollen available. I'd kill to try some of the White House honey.
