Woman Sues Google for Bad Directions

Jun 02, 2010 10:08

One day I was using my cell phone's GPS service to find the nearest Target. I was driving down the road when suddenly my cell phone piped up, "Turn right here." I looked to the right. There was no road, just a tree and some grass. I chalked it up to a GPS glitch and turned right at the next corner.
If I had been Lauren Rosenberg, however, I ( Read more... )

I... walk down the side of a semi-rural route regularly, especially if my car is being serviced in town and I need to get home. I've walked, jogged, and ridden horses on rural and semi-rural routes. (Not divided highways, mind, but state routes and the like - half the time, around here, they're the only way to get from point A to point B.)

If someone hit me with their car while I was taking a summer walk to the library, I would expect them to be in some sort of trouble and pay damages. I know enough not to walk in the middle of the road, but I also doubt she was walking down the yellow line.

Yeah, it's not like there are a ton of options for people without cars who need to get to spots outside public transportation routes

That's a relatively minor glitch. There's a road in my town that appears TWICE in the town and is non-contiguous. There's another one that was stitched together of 3 similarly named roads and never renumbered so it goes from 47 to 283 back to 150 up again. (our poor postmen...)

That the GPS told you to cross onto a busy street is a relatively minor glitch. And if you were getting verbal directions from someone and they accidentally told you the wrong turn, would you sue them?

Geez.
