I'm taking more issue with the concept of promoting tourism for Aboriginal culture in the first place, it rings a little exploitative to me. It's weird building an enterprise on the skeleton of a marginalized indigenous people. I mean, aren't aboriginies in Australia facing massive unemployment, racism, and systemic abuse?

I think it's more about bringing employment to Indigenous peoples in the area. Tourism is one of the bigger industries in that area, it's fairly remote to the bigger populations in the country, a long, long way away from Sydney and Melbourne, employment opportunities are scarce, it's either that or mining.

If it's owned and driven by those populations at least, then it's valid. I just tend to get a wary eye about these things haha.

I read this out to my indigenous co-workers and had a bit of a discussion about it. I understand what your concerns are, but if people are going to be going through sacred areas and wanting to see these places then the local tribe has to give permission, and usually that permission comes with a guide who gets paid ( ... )
