Doctors who fail to inform their pregnant patients that they have the legal right to have an abortion -- or who refuse to refer women to doctors who perform abortions -- could be thrown into the slammer for up to four years, if the dominant political party in Mexico City's legislature has its way.

A law that would give women more information with which to exercise their rights to control their own bodies?

It's not hard to know there's gonna be a shitload of resistance to that.

At first I thought the title was ACTUALLY SOMEONE TRYING TO FORCE WOMEN TO GET ABORTIONS, and was like, "Look, I know that 'use their own tactics against them' works sometimes, but, erm, this is not one of those cases."

I agree. I think that doctors who fail in this arena should lose their jobs, because they fail as doctors, the same way I think that pharmacists who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions should lose THEIR jobs. But prison terms? Perhaps not.
