Rosie O'Donnell Tries to Change Mike Huckabee's Mind on Gay Adoption

Apr 24, 2010 13:49

Apparently Rosie O'Donnell has a Sisyphus complex. Sisyphus was the fabled Greek king who was punished by the Gods and sentenced to a life of pushing a huge rock up a hill, only to watch the rock roll back down again. For Rosie O'Donnell's part, the rock she was trying to push was Mike Huckabee, and she was trying to push him toward a more ( Read more... )

This kind of thing just boggles my mind. There are many political issues that reasonable people can disagree and debate about. But how do you look an actual, real-life lesbian in the face, who is raising actual children, and tell her that her family shouldn't exist? All while insisting that he's NOT JUDGING her personally? It's so irrational.

Huckabee is just so brave to do this despite all the pressure for gays to have the right to adopt from both Republicans and Democrats.

My thoughts exactly. Such a conversation wouldn't even be necessary if he wasn't such an ass. Duh.

I hate this mother and father idea that people have. My dad bailed when I was one and I haven't seen him in almost 20 years. I turned out fine. Well, I have some abandonment issues and daddy-issues, but other than that, I'm doing okay.

He's not just insulting gay people when he says this shit, he's insulting people like me, who didn't have a choice in the way they were raised. And my mom. It wasn't her intention to be a single mother, it just happened.

Ugh, get with the 21st century. Tons of people have families outside the norm that do just fine, thankyou.

I'm still caught up in how the excuses that anti-gay-adoption people give pretty much also say they're against single parents, widowed parents, etc., etc. And that somehow kids who have both a mother and father, but they're bad, that's better than having one good parent or good gay parents. Or, hell, just decent ones. I mean, how does that even make sense? It's like there's a "logic" section of their brains that are disconnected.

it's not a prejudice

Believing that men and women can't be equal (the kids can't just have a mother or a father, they need both!) is prejudice, hun.
