Even paleo-conservative Pat Buchanan is coming out against Georgia now

Aug 17, 2008 13:22

[Buchanan, a former Reagan speech writer and GOP Presidential candidate -- also a world-class prick on most domestic issues, like abortion rights -- & later to become a Reform Party presidential candidate, writes: "Georgia started this fight -- Russia finished it." The mainstream of both the GOP and Dems are busy berating Russia & Putin, but the ( Read more... )

Good documentary about the Georgia/Russia thing, from 2003 - 5 years ago! -- that now seems very important. The documentary probably deserves its own post:

As I mentioned below: Buchanan is responsible for a speech Reagan made in a German cemetery at Bitburg where he said Nazi SS officers were just as much victims of WW II as Jews. That pissed a lot of people off at the time and even The Ramones wrote a song about it called "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg," mocking Reagan. I don't know if The Ramones knew Reagan's words were pened by Mr. Buchanan or not, btu he has said some odious stuff.

Also, domestically and in the US's borders, Buchanana has always supported legislating Christian morality as part of US law. No abortions, no gays (wants anti-sodomy laws on the books), Judeo-Christian ethics enshrined into law, no separation of Church and State (at least not to the degree favored by Dems, generally), and he's made incredibly sexist remarks.

Yeah, some of his Reagan speeches were also atrocious. It is creepy how sometimes he will write some of the best stuff on US foreign policy, better than liberals or Democrats, but on his domestic agenda -- where he is pro-life and wants Christian morality legislated at home to the masses whethe they're Christian or not -- he is cuckoo. But his writings on the Iraq War were also frighteningly good.
