In order to compare how devastating this I would say it would be a Katrina scale disaster taking place in Washington D.C.
It pains me to know that many to most Americans will look at that picture of the palace, hear about all the damage/deaths, and go "Oh." Basically "not my state/country, not worth a damn" syndrome.
The US has tight ties with Haiti...for good and bad. There is a LOT of Haitian-Americans. Not to mention the US has a lot of missionaries and personal that live in Haiti.
It's reported that the person in charge of the UN HQ is dead and we have NO WORD on US personal in the US Embassy.
I saw some people on Facebook last night saying that people shouldn't donate money to Haiti, they should donate money to people in THIS country who don't have jobs and bawww our government cares more about other countries. It's rare that I feel I could physically harm someone through the computer but last night, I really thought I could.
Received word while at work. Friend of family dead. Still haven't been able to contact family but think my dads side of the family is ok. As far as my mom's...idk. I think I'm going to leave work.
