OMG I was waiting for you (or someone else) to make a Honduras elections post. It's sort of a sad contrast with Uruguay's (legitimate) vote last night, imo.

Security forces in the northern city of San Pedro Sula fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse hundreds of Zelaya supporters who were protesting during polling Sunday. Journalists and activists said dozens were detained and injured.
SO ~democratic~ and ~constitutional~ amirite?

Arturo Valenzuela, you helped write this really awesome book about Chile ("A Nation of Enemies: Chile Under Pinochet" I highly recommend it), but I am disappoint in this case (for supporting the coup elections). :(

It looks like these elections are going to be it. I'm tired of this whole mess, I can't even imagine how the Hondurans themselves are feeling, they probably just want it to be over. Whatever happens, Honduras will probably take decades to gain some stability and better politicians. The coup was ridiculous, the "elections" are ridiculous, Zelaya is ridiculous, governments fighting behind the scenes over this is ridiculous... meh, so sick of it all.

Sad, but very true :(
I only hope Mr. New Oligarch in Charge won't turn into something worse than the current coup regime :(

This is so confusing and heartbreaking. I know Obama doesn't want to say anything about this situation given the history of U.S. intervention in Latin America, but I hate the way he's handling it. He's ignoring something so important. Then again, most of the world doesn't really care to pay attention to issues in Latin America. :(

I agree. At the same time, I wish my president was less involved.

The rich win, and the heavyweights in the international community don't care.
