History has demonstrated the absurdities to which man descends when he excludes God from the horizon of his choices and actions.

But it wasn’t his televised message that mesmerised millions, but a large spider that went directly for the pontiff neck.

whyyy is the article calling him Ratzinger? I mean, I know that's his "real" name, but I thought once you're pope you only go by the name you picked.

The source being pretty antireligious is probably a large part of it. I was going to post the Yahoo article it links to instead (which only uses his papal name), but this was more concise (and had more fun describing the spider's voyage, which seemed a nice touch :D ).
