I hope it does make the news. 'Cause him actually saying "Congratulations, you'll make the news" when she told him about her mom dying from cancer is even more douchey than that Jenkins moron laughing at the mom who hasn't been able to afford to take her kid to the doctors for two years due to a lack of health insurance.

I make the face in my icon far too often lately over this shit, I swear to God.

Wtf man! She said her mother died of cancer, and he just said "congrats you'll make the news"?" THAT'S NOT WHY SHE WAS DOING IT IDIOT! She probably wanted an aswner to why he would be against something that could have saved her mother. Ugh. I don't care for her shouting either, but Steele was still an ass.

On some level, I wish these people would shut the hell up, because they're tilting into some seriously unsympathetic territory (and they've already been coming off pretty heartless). The anti-reform folks already look cruel and stupid at these things, but now the pro-reform folks who've been dicked over by the insurance companies are showing up at these town halls and public meetings and telling their stories -- sick kids, dying mothers -- and they're being greeted with reactions that are dismissive and condescending. How can they NOT see how horrible attitudes like this will look? I mean, okay, they've been cruel about it on a large scope, but when somebody is standing right in front of you telling you about their sick kid and you LAUGH at them? *wince*

God, how agree with this comment. you said it perfectly. I don't understand how people can be so selfish and heartless. I can't comprehend it... I just... I can't understand it:( It makes me sad.

You know what it is? I think on some level they really are used at this point to NO ONE taking these discussions seriously. People keep showing up and screaming SOCIALISM! and NAZI! and DEATH PANELS! mostly just to make angry noises.

So instead of doing what they should be doing -- show up, be respectful, state their sides with intelligence and facts -- the politicians are ready to be dismissive, and because they're conservative they're immediately defensive against liberals. (Not a criticism, since that goes both ways.) However, the pro-reform folks are people who are showing up with these stories about cancer and kids who need heart transplants and people with pre-existing conditions having trouble getting new policies. They have real stories, and they're not there to shout, but the folks in the suits have already seen the righty Glenn-Beck issued plants and now they're just waiting for the lefty ones to show up and wriggle soundbites out of them for Keith and Rachel.
