I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Lincoln had simply said, "You know what? Fine. There's the fucking door, assholes. Secede, PLEASE."

I mean, ultimately, he made the right call, because slavery was not conscionable and could not be allowed to stand (and yes, I get that this was only one of many factors that inspired the Civil War, but without the Civil War, the slaves would not have been freed), but in every other respect, I kind of feel like America would be better off, because I see the Southern states' relationship to the rest of the United States as being akin to how Crazy Person Dave Sim sees the relationship of the female void to the male light.
