I don't think it's odd, based on how often the show calls not only politicians, but members of the media out on their inconsistencies, hypocrasy and general fuckwittery.
True (I do love watching him tear into people, few do it as well as he does) but I think even he would see it as a bit baffling that a comedian is more trusted than most journalists. To be fair, I trust him a lot myself. He's sort of like a funny, less bastard-ish Paxman.

I love Jon Stewart and think he's done a lot of great interviews but it is pretty odd he's considered the most trusted.
