I haven't been following this very closely at all, so forgive a potentially stupid question, but why were people concerned initially when his family and people close to him didn't seem concerned?
Because he is the governor and he has been unavailable without his security detail and without empowering anyone to act for him in his absence. I think it was other lawmakers who raised the question first. Now the issue is the various stories coming out. It could be nothing, but "hiking the Appalachian Trail" is taking on the status of a euphemism.
Yeah, the different stories coming out certainly make things seem sketchy, I just wondered why anyone was on alert when those close weren't. I understand he's a governor and should be around, I just wondered if a bigger deal was initially being made.
It sounds to me like he's done this before. He drove off in a security vehicle, that apparently contains guns and ammo, but didn't tell security he was leaving. It looks like it started with officials who wanted to know what was up and then the press got hold of it.
I was wondering about this, too. A couple of the reports I read yesterday said his staff has last located him through a cell phone signal outside of Atlanta, but the Apalachain Trail starts close to the Georgia-SC boarder.
OH SHI-- Lewis Black is going to be on Olberman talking about it! This is gonna be good!
