More Califailnia

This is an incredible possibility, and would be a huge setback in so many areas - rights of seniors/retirees, the disabled, women and single mothers, HIV/AIDs patients, workers and the unemployed, childhood (and adult!) poverty, equal opportunity enforcement, etc.

Free marketeers, on the other hand, should be happy, and are licking their chops.

Real talk, CA really needs to reform their health and human services agencies. It is unbelievable the amount of SNAP, TANF, medicaid and child care subsidy they pay to people who are no longer qualified, or not qualified at all. They spend so much of their federal dollars because they WASTE it. And, they are heavily fined by the federal for wasting the money.

This reform is needed!

My mother worked in non-profit child care for years (I will keep the program names out in order to avoid any backlash) and my mother witnessed so much fraud and abuse it made her sick. These entitlement programs in California are so filled with fraud and theft. It's sad.

I'm sure this is true, as it is when any persons or organizations think there is money to be had (Boeing charging $50 for a screwdriver on a govt. contract), but if there's fraud, corruption, etc., that should be rooted out and dealt with to keep the agency functioning, imo. The fraud at the defense dept. never seems to result in arguments that the pentagon be closed, because defense contractors line up to it like pigs at the public trough (which they do).

fuck the poor, eh.

If California wasn't very difficult in getting 2/3 majority to get anything passed I think it would be better to fund such programs.

It's like No Child Left Behind where we pat ourselves on the back for being great and having this program and then not funding the shit out of it.

Conservatives say states still have a long list of assistance programs and few people would be left without any help.

Federally mandated programs such as food stamps, low-income housing and Medicaid - the U.S. health program for low-income people, seniors and the disabled - will continue, said Robert Rector, a senior fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation. Those programs received financial boosts under the federal recovery act.

"It's not removing the safety net because we have all of these other programs," Rector said.

Have you ever been on any of those assistant programs conservatives? It's not enough.
