hmmmm don't know what to think bnmc2005 April 22 2009, 14:53:54 UTC

I wonder if Creationism is related to this. The Feds set that kind of broader curriculum stuff don't they?

This seems to be about trying to get around the local government regulations more than anything- but school boards can be generally retarded anyway. Tulsa is actually the most liberal area of the state and the fact that they're trying to get more control on a local level- might be a good thing.

But Who decides when a teacher is "unproductive" anyway? It's a fine line between "unproductive" or "unwilling to go along with our program"? or "gay friendly" or.. "too liberal..." or... etc.

But OK is sooooo fucked up anyway. Something called reform needs to happen.

The feds have nothing to do with curriculum, actually.

Oh hilarious. Because everyone knows school boards are well versed in educational philosophy and aren't locally elected dimwits. Oh wait.

Would it even do that, though? If they're still subject to federal mandates, it seems like that would still apply. (This is the first and only time I ever anticipate saying this, but... thank god for NCLB?? At least there will be an ounce of accountability left, even if it is to something so shitty.)

I think it does specifically track math and reading/writing skills, but I'm sure you're entirely right in ways that could be creatively, uh, 'taught' and implemented-- I hadn't much thought of that. The state of American education today is so incredibly depressing.

I know next to nothing about the South Korean education system (besides mentally mocking my cousin whenever I'm visiting for summer vacation because he still has school). What can you tell me about it?
