in exchange for her support in the wiretapping issue, Alberto R. Gonzales intervened to stop the investigation that "alleged" that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of AIPAC.

that seems to be the only reason, unless they had more dirt on her that we dont know about...
