Though New England Republicans are rather different than Republicans elsewhere. it's the lack of widespread religious craziness. It's the local DEMOCRATS in my town that are batshit. The party chair stood up in middle of town meeting and flat out said 'we can't send this referendum to vote, people are stupid and will vote for it.' And the deputy repeated same 'we can't let people vote, people are stupid and don't understand the issue' claptrap.

Fortunately I got to speak next and called them out on the democrats opposing democratic voting in favor of rule by committee. (I was a democrat at the time)

Town meetings in CT are damned exciting since in many jurisdictions they're obligated to let you speak AND motions on the table that night are passed by voice vote... including the elected officials and any citizen that showed up.
