I think...that Rev. Lowery is a great man, and someone I respect a lot. I also think he is unequivocally wrong about gay marriage. I think that being against gay marriage is a bigoted position, that it comes from a place of bigotry against gays, though thinking it does not necessarily make someone a bigot. I think that gay marriage is something that otherwise decent people can disagree on. I have no issue with Lowery being extended the honor of speaking at Obama's inauguration. I think it's awesome, actually.

However...in the aftermath of the fallout over Warren, Lowery was often mischaracterized as being a counterweight to Warren- that it wasn't so bad that Warren was invited because Lowery would be there too, and he was a full-on LGBT rights supporter, including for same-sex marriage. That is what I find interesting in this.

Obama's (old or new? I don't even know) Church, the UCC, where the infamous Rev. Wright preached, supports gay marriage.
He should have gotten a reverend from there.

I wouldn't say I dislike him; I actually don't. I just have issues with people who justify their inability to support equal rights for anyone with religion. I say the same thing ("You suck!") to my friend Carrie, and she's a faithful Mormon.
