The sad thing was, I really didn't mind Harper until all of this recent bullshit.

I'm still rather wary of this coalition, however. There's a chance that this could divide the country even more, which really isn't something we need.

I am not a steven Harper fan, never was and never will. BUT I do really agree with this coalition. I think it is going to do more harm than good.

We are at a point where something does need to change. The lack of voter participation as well as three consecutive minority governments (as opposed to the majorities that have been seen in the past) has shown that people aren't really happy with any of the alternatives.

But, you know that there are going to be cries of "WESTERN ALIENATION", especially with the Bloc playing a part in this. ::sigh:: The joys of being an Albertan.

Well... it's certainly one way to combat voter apathy. :P

It's like they all got together, decided that since separatism and floor crossing were SO last year, they'd do something REALLY different. Just to remind us that Canadians are exciting.

...Or not quite.

Ugh, there was just an election and this just makes them seem like sore losers. Go away Dion.

Not really. It's more that Harper's been a sore winner since his first Minority win, and this time he really did step way too far.

Well done, Canada. Way to provide your country with interesting politics AFTER the damn election.

I want to dislike this coalition, because no good can come of the NDP having any power, but anything that sinks Harper-- and most importantly, Finance MInister Jim Flahery-- is just A-1 in my book. Harper wants to play "I have a majority and will do what I want with this country" with his Mike Harris "Common sense revolution" architect friends? Then he can go play in the former PM section of question period.

Idealistically, this coalition is the biggest step forward in terms of National Unity that I've seen in my 26 years alive. And I imagine everyone's going to play nice while Dion is still leader. Still, I have no doubt it will blow up in everyone's face, and I really, truly do not care. Ousting Harper and letting the Conservatives regroup with a better, less Repubican-seeming strategy is a GREAT IDEA.
