"Hope" is the mantra du jour regarding Obama's impending presidency. While some have compared Obama to Lincoln, the more profligate comparison is between BHO and FDR, both of whom came to leadership of the free world amidst dire financial meltdowns that threatened global economies and the systemic viability of the entire global economic system.

No, you're being obnoxious, because you don't understand the nature of the comparisons, which are about what Obama could do, given that he faces similar circumstances. It's speculation, not prognostication and coronation. If you can't see the differences there, you're not paying attention or actually reading these articles.

FDR did do some horrible stuff. Even though FDR is the closest thing there is to a President I admire, you're right, the Japanese internment camps and arguably the nuclear warfare against Japan are bights on his record. Nuking Japan once is one thing. Nuking them the 2nd time is still controversial. But when you think about all the guy did -- being elected popularly for 4 terms, leading the US out of the Great Depression, defeating European fascism, Japanese militarism and their colonization of Asia, developing nuclear energy, rural electrification, hydroelectric dams, public roads, schools, etc., etc., -- the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, every Pres has some blood on their hands. That's not to diminish the bad, though, because the internment camps were unjust.

Better FDR than MLK and/or Lincoln.

You know, people are creating so much hype that when Obama doesn't walk on water during his first term as president, everyone is going to be crushed. Is there really no other news to report that the media has to play 'how many times can we compare Obama to some figure in history that he may or may not live up to?' I know this is a historic time for the US, but I can't see how all this is doing anything other than set expectations way too high.

I honestly dont see what's problematic about featuring such articles, if for no other reason than to debate the implications and legitimacy of these comparisons.
