Idk what will happen. The main thing is just that it will take a LOT for the GOP to lose the Senate. The House is almost guaranteed to flip though.

I read this article (1, about gerrymandering in the US) which was gave a good overview of how the system as it currently is actually tends to favor Republicans (one thing they mention is that Republican voters in general tend to be more spread out over the country than Democratic voters, which means that for the same number of votes the Republicans will have a slight advantage in terms of seats). Which is not to say that Democrats haven't happily engaged in gerrymandering when it suited them, of course (as I recall, one of the cases that led to the appearance in the SC was concerned with Democratic gerrymandering).
I found it pretty depressing but not surprising that the Supreme Court voted pro-gerrymandering, basically, in its recent decision.
