This was a really relevant and informative rundown of the erosion of press freedom in the world, OP. Thanks for posting.

I learned a lot from this. (Let's hope things will get better in 2018 though, and that those murdered for doing their jobs get some justice, at least.)

Me too. It was so horrible. Caruana Galizia apparently knew she was in danger and reported threats to police before her death. It doesn't look like much was done to protect her.
